Dedication to Sher Farrell, a dear friend who is the founder and instructor of Kalamazoo College Ballet Theatre. Not only does Sher dance, but in June 2000, she took her vows as a Franciscan nun.

Dancing to Heaven to Sher Farrell
When asked to mark the difference from one art to the other devotion, she said there was none between a nun and ballerina, no line or boundary drawn from the calling of grace to the flight of the most graceful.

Thus...

Breath thrashing like a netted bird,
every muscle aching its prayer for perfection,
the soul driven clean and light by its passion,
slender arch and pointed toe or curve of palm to palm,
to send whispered vows up to the catwalk where He watches in well-pleased calm.
Ardent swoon and pirouette carry the spirit to dizzying heights,
at long last to attain its bliss of curling safely like a sparrow,
every tiny feather counted,
in the cup of God's hand.

According to reports. She is avery delightful person, and ones actually feels more at ease with her on the dance stage. "

Yours,

Mr. Roger M.
